Thank you for buying a chainsaw carving from us. All are made from logs therefore they will crack, check, expand and contract naturally, this can add to character of the sculpture distinguishing it from ceramic, plastic, concrete, etc. When we can, we put a cut into the heart of the wood to alleviate pressure thus stopping some of the checking. We cannot control or be responsible for wood cracking in undesirable places, Spray and crack with an appropriate color stain, or paint to blend in.
If you are keeping your carving outdoors, do not allow direct contact with the ground or concrete. It is better to keep the carving in a dry shaded area away from direct heat source. Direct suling and heat causes the wood to dry too quickly, causing cracks. We recommend putting small strips of treated wood, rocks, or similar objects under the base of the sculpture (even indoors). This will allow the wood to breathe and prevent mildew and deterioration from moisture.
Bugs or worms: Some wood will have small bugs or worms evidenced by small pieces of sawdust coming out. Find the hole and spray with bug killer or WD-40
All carvings are treated with exterior wood protector. We recommend sealing your carving at least once a year. We use Minwax Pro Series Spar Urethane indoor/outdoor on all our carvings.
